Bobi Wine, also known as Robert Kyagulanyi, the president of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party, has designated his deputy for the Northern region, Lina Zedriga, to act as the party’s president for a brief period of ten days, commencing from today.
In a formal communication, Kyagulanyi stated that he will be temporarily out of the country, thus necessitating the appointment of Lina Zedriga as the acting president to oversee the party’s affairs during his absence.
The letter, citing the NUP party constitution, specifies the duration of Zedriga’s tenure as acting president, spanning from March 5th to March 15th, 2024.
There is uncertainty regarding the reasons behind Kyagulanyi’s departure and his intended destination, as these details were not explicitly mentioned in the letter of office delegation.

This move raises questions about whether it is customary for Kyagulanyi to delegate authority when traveling abroad or if this is a unique occurrence amidst the party’s internal dynamics.

Allegations of mismanagement and corruption during Mpuuga’s tenure as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament have strained relations within the party, prompting demands for accountability and resignation.
During a televised interview on NTV-Uganda, Kyagulanyi reiterated calls for Mpuuga to apologize to the public, return the contested funds, and relinquish his parliamentary position.
In contrast, Mpuuga maintains his innocence and refuses to yield to the demands for resignation or repayment.
Kyagulanyi hinted at an impending meeting of the NUP National Executive Committee (NEC) to address the Mpuuga situation, but it remains uncertain whether the appointed acting president will preside over the proceedings or if the party will await Kyagulanyi’s return for a resolution.
