KAMPALA – National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely known as Bobi Wine, was on Wednesday officially nominated as a candidate in Uganda’s 2026 presidential election.
Kyagulanyi, who rose to national prominence during the 2021 elections when he challenged long-serving President Yoweri Museveni, successfully fulfilled all the legal requirements outlined under the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179.
His nomination was confirmed at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters in Kampala by Justice Simon Byabakama, the Returning Officer for Presidential Nominations.
On the second day of the nomination exercise, Kyagulanyi became the third aspirant to be cleared, and the sixth overall since the process began earlier this week.
The Electoral Commission will continue to receive nominations from presidential hopefuls until the close of the scheduled exercise, after which the final list of candidates will be published ahead of the 2026 general election.
