The National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro has revealed that next week, his party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) is going publicly read the names of opposition legislators who signed the censure motion against parliamentary commissioners accused of being corrupt.

Mufumbiro explained that the development will help the voters to know whether their legislators are fighting corruption or benefiting from the vice and guide them on what to do to them as the 2026 general elections draw close.

“My party president did his part by exposing those involved in the scheme of stealing from the poor. Now the legislators led by NRM’s Theodore Ssekikubo of Lwemiyaga county have also started on the process of censuring the corrupt legislators, now it is the right time for the voters also to intervene and support the move because Uganda is not for me, Bobi Wine or Ssekikubo but for all of us,” Mufumbiro said.

He pleaded with voters around the country to pressurize their respective legislators through social media, make phone calls to them and send them text messages reminding them to go and sign the censure motion.

Insiders in NUP told TV10GanoMazima that Bobi Wine is going to read the names of the opposition legislators who will sign the censure motion on Tuesday next week in Mityana at a political rally.

Sources claim that the development has send the Mityana district woman legislator Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa into panic mode because she is among the few NUP legislators who have not yet signed the censure motion.

Bagala is a known close friend to troubled former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba who benefited from the alleged corruption. Mpuuga was given the Shs500m service award when Bagala was the shadow information minister.

Busujju county legislator David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga confirmed the pressure Mityana voters have placed on their legislators noting that when he attended the meeting which was preparing for Bobi Wine’s visit in Mityana, before he made any statement, they asked him to tell them whether he has signed the censure motion to which he answered in affirmative.

He was supported by Kasanda North legislator Patrick Oshabe Nsamba who is one of the legislators fueling the motion to censure the legislators who revealed that the political situation at parliament has forced some opposition legislators to run into hiding so that they don’t sign the motion.

He added that a secret meeting was held on Thursday morning at parliament to discuss strategies on how to frustrate the move of censuring the four parliamentary commissioners who shared Shs1.7bn among themselves.

The troubled commissioners are: Esther Afoyochan, the Zombo district Woman legislator; Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi, the Rubanda district  Woman legislator; Solomon Silwany, the Bukooli Central legislator and Matthias Mpuuga, the Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator.

Nsamba added that there is an ongoing clandestine plan for the legislators who are against the censure motion to petition Court so that they can secure a court order stopping the move.

Other prominent opposition legislators who have not yet signed the censure motion are; Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Butambala County’s Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, Busiro East’s Medard Lubega Ssegona, Butambala district woman legislator Hajjat Aisha Kabanda and chances are high that they will not sign the censure motion because of their political relationship with Mpuuga.

However Nsamba warned them that just like many legislators in 2021 lost their seats because of supporting the controversial Age Limit law, fighting corruption is going to be a strong determining factor on who will return to parliament.

Nsamba revealed that by Thursday evening, they were remaining with only 47 signatures to cause the summoning of parliament by the speaker to move the censure motion.
