Busoga College, Mwiri booked their place in the semifinals of the Boys’ Schools Cricket Week after battering both Teso College, Aloet and Delhi Public School International in the Super Six.
The 19-time champions began their day with an 82-run win against TCA before beating Delhi Public by 8 wickets to round off their Group A action.
Current leading run scorer at the tournament and Mwiri captain Gerald Olipa scored 44 against TCA- his lowest at the tournament so far- but he was at the forefront in the afternoon game, scoring 65 off 31 balls, and picking two wickets.
They became the first side to progress to the semifinals. Mwiri failed to make the finals last year when they got beaten by the eventual winners Jinja SS in the semis; they will be seeking to make amends this year.
While Mwiri ensured their progression to the next round, Aga Khan High School bowed out of the competition. The side lost both their Group B games in the Super Six, losing by 131 runs to defending champions Jinja Senior Secondary School and by 3 wickets to last year’s losing finalists, Nyakasura.
Jinja SS and Nyakasura also booked their places in the semifinals, but they will face off tomorrow to determine who tops Group B.
The former edged the tie last year when they met in the final, but both sides will be motivated to top the group as none will want to meet Mwiri in the semis.
TCA and Delhi Public are both yet to confirm their fate, but they will also face off tomorrow to determine who qualifies for the semis as Group A runner’s up.
