Boys Schools Cricket Week: Super Six Confirmed

The trio of Busoga College, Mwiri, Nyakasura School and Jinja Senior Secondary School advanced to the Super Six of the Boys’ Schools Cricket Week unbeaten after all won their respective final group games on Wednesday.

Through their opener Ronald Magezi- scorer of the third century (110) of the tournament, Jinja SS who are the defending champions and the tournament hosts annihilated Ntare School by 182 runs.

It was their fifth win at the tournament, one that saw them lead Group A with a maximum 10 points.

Nyakasura- last year’s losing finalists beat Masaka Secondary School by 8 wickets in Group B while Mwiri thrashed Ndejje Senior Secondary School by 131 runs in Group C.

Mwiri captain Gerald Olipa was once again the difference in their game. Olipa knocked his second century of the tournament, scoring 122 off 44 balls at a strike rate of 277.27.

Ben Solomon Mulindwa picked four wickets for Nyakasura on Wednesday to ensure they progress to the next stage as Group B leaders. Like both Nyakasura and Jinja SS, Mwiri garnered 10 points in their group.

Teso College Aloet from Group A, Delhi Public School International from Group B and Aga Khan High School- Group C, runners up are the other three sides that complete the Super Six.

With 421 runs, Olipa caps the group stages with the most runs. His 36 fours and as many sixes are also the most by any player in the group stages. Nyakasura’s Stephen Aliganyira ends the group stages with most wickets (17).

Horizon International School who were debuting in this competition ended the group stages with no victory. They, alongside Ntare and Masaka SS are the only schools that failed to win any game in the group stages.

Shree Sahajanand School Uganda, the other debuting school managed three wins, and finished with six points same as Delhi Public, but their inferior net run rate denied them a place in the Super Six.

They will now play plate games alongside the other eleven sides that failed to advance. The twelve teams have been divided into four groups and will each play three games for a place in the semis and finally the final.

For the Super Six, they have been divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals and ultimately the final.

Group A consists of Busoga College Mwiri, Delhi Public School and Teso College Aloet while Group B has Jinja SS, Nyakasura School and Aga Khan High School.
