The Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, has urged more than 1,000 Ugandan nationals recently repatriated from South Africa to embrace patriotism, integrity and hard work as they rebuild their lives and contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
Brig. Gen. Isoke made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing the returnees during a patriotism and reintegration programme at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi. The programme is aimed at preparing the returnees for successful reintegration into society through values of patriotism, discipline, integrity and active citizenship.
Addressing the participants, Brig. Gen. Isoke encouraged them to view their return to Uganda not as a setback but as a fresh opportunity to create better livelihoods and play an active role in national development.
He described corruption as one of the biggest barriers to Uganda’s progress and called on the returnees to uphold honesty and reject all forms of corruption.
“Every Ugandan has a constitutional responsibility to fight corruption and safeguard public resources,” he said, urging the returnees to become ambassadors of integrity within their communities.
Brig. Gen. Isoke also highlighted several government programmes designed to empower citizens through wealth creation, investment and enterprise development. He assured the returnees that Uganda presents numerous opportunities in business, innovation and regional trade, adding that government remains committed to creating an environment that enables citizens to prosper.
He further commended the National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps for equipping the returnees with the values of patriotism, discipline and positive mindset change, describing these as essential ingredients for peaceful reintegration and sustainable national development.
The SH-ACU boss expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for directing the evacuation of Ugandan nationals affected by xenophobic violence in South Africa, saying the intervention demonstrated government’s commitment to protecting its citizens wherever they may be.
He also applauded the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, together with other government leaders and institutions, for coordinating the successful repatriation exercise that ensured the safe return of the affected Ugandans.
During his visit to NALI, Brig. Gen. Isoke was received by the Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps, Ms. Hellen Seku. He also held discussions with the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwine.
The patriotism and reintegration programme is part of ongoing government efforts to support Ugandans returning from abroad by equipping them with the knowledge, values and skills needed to reintegrate successfully into their communities while contributing to national development.
