This year, BC has issued over 9,000 invitations to file for a provincial nomination

On September 28, 2021, British Columbia welcomed 422 immigration candidates under the two PNP draws. As part of its PNP program, British Columbia has conducted two different rounds of invites twice a month since February. In addition, because of a large number of enrolments under the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) in certain areas, British Columbia held an additional draw to balance the requirements in all sectors of the provincial labour market.

Candidates from the Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry BC (EEBC) streams of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) were invited to the general draw. Under the SI and EEBC stream, invitations were primarily sent to the skilled workers, international graduates, entry-level and semi-Skilled subcategories.

Minimum scores for that draw varied from 69 to 90 points. A total of 386 candidates were invited under this draw. A separate draw was also held under the SI and EEBC categories, with applicants whose occupations were targeted within the NOC 0621 or NOC 0631. The draw yielded 36 invites with a total score of 105. As a result, BC has issued 9,083 invites this year across several BC PNP streams.

Seeing the high demand for foreign workers in the province, the BC attempts to hire and offer them permanent residence in Canada. The BC PNP includes two immigration streams, i.e., Skills Immigration and Express Entry, handled by British Columbia’s Skills Immigration Registration System. To apply through the SIRS, you must first create an account, followed by the allocation of scores based on several factors such as education, employment experience, and language skills.

When British Columbia has one of its regular draws, the top-scoring applicants in each subcategory are asked to apply for a provincial nomination to apply for permanent residency. If you are invited, you will have 30 days from the invitation date to complete an application using the BC PNP online system. After submitting a comprehensive BC PNP application, you will get a decision from the province within two to three months.

If your nomination is accepted, you will be able to apply for permanent residence status with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the Provincial Nominee Class. The nomination is good for six months from the date of confirmation. As a provincial nominee, you will have the opportunity to get an additional 600 CRS points leading to the optimum score level to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a future federal Express Entry draw.
