The much-awaited census exercise is finally underway in Kitanga parish in Rukiga district where it had been halted as a result of a technical glitch.
The nationwide exercise that started on Friday, May 10, was planned to last for 10 days. However, in Kitanga, it never started until Tuesday afternoon because the parish name could not be captured in the system.
One of the enumerators told our reporter that the authorities did not have an immediate solution to the technicality and halted the exercise until the matter was sorted.
Rukiga District Planning Officer Henry Muhweezi said that the parish details were missing in the system and instead, the neighbouring Kitunga parish in the same sub-county appeared twice. Muhweezi, however, says that the problem has been resolved and the exercise is now underway.
He adds that he has already engaged residents and area leaders to appreciate the cause of the delay and is optimistic that the enumerators shall finish the exercise in time.
