The Directorate of Traffic & Road safety has provided alternative routes for the road users plying Kampala-Masaka highway following sinking in of a section of the road between Kyengera and Buddo Junction as a result of the heavy rains.
Micheal Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson has advised the road users to use the alternative routes as indicated below:
For Motorists from Kampala to Masaka:-
-Nakawuka road -Buddo junction or Kitemu to access Kampala-Masaka highway.
-Mityana road – Buloba-Nsangi to access Kampala-Masaka Highway.
Motorists from Masaka to Kampala:-
-Kitemu or Buddo- Nakawuka to access Kampala.
-Nsangi -Buloba – Mityana road to access Kampala.
Kananura has therefore appealed to the public to exercise the utmost discipline & patience as the teams from Traffic Police & UNRA assess the damage.
Allan Ssempeebwa, the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) spokesperson has assured the public that their staff have already got on the ground to assess the magnitude of the problem and have it electrified in a short period of time.
There was a similar incident in December last year, with traffic at the Busega-Kyengera section along the Kampala-Masaka Highway again diverted following a collapse of the roadway.
