Kampala– The Chief Justice, Dr. Flavian Zeija, was on Monday morning officially ushered into his chambers at the Supreme Court in a ceremony marked by prayer, reflection, and celebration.
The event, held at the Supreme Court, carried deep symbolic significance as the head of the Judiciary formally took his seat at the nation’s highest court, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in the administration of justice in Uganda.
The ceremony was attended by key Judiciary officials, including the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana; the Registrar of the Supreme Court, HW Ayebare Tumwebaze; his Deputy, HW Akullo Elizabeth Ogwal; as well as judicial and non-judicial staff attached to the Chief Justice’s chambers.
Leading the spiritual segment, Fr. John Luke Ssebuliba, Assistant Parish Priest of Lweza Parish, delivered prayers and blessings, congratulating Justice Zeija upon his elevation to the highest judicial office. He emphasized the immense responsibility that comes with the role, calling for wisdom, integrity, and unwavering commitment. He further underscored the importance of divine guidance, praying for clarity of mind, strength of character, and grace as the Chief Justice executes his duties.
In his remarks, Dr. Pius Bigirimana reflected on a moment in 2021 when he had expressed confidence that Justice Zeija would one day rise to the position of Chief Justice—a vision he said has now come to fruition.
Chief Justice Zeija, in his address, expressed gratitude to the Permanent Secretary and Judiciary staff for their support as he begins his tenure. He pledged openness and collaboration, assuring staff of his commitment to working together in advancing the Judiciary’s mandate. He also thanked the clergy for invoking divine guidance, acknowledging the weight of responsibility entrusted to him.
The ceremony, moderated by the Private Legal Secretary to the Chief Justice, Dr. Alex Mushabe Karocho, concluded with a celebratory cake-cutting moment, marking the start of his leadership at the helm of the Judiciary.
