On Tuesday morning, cycling group – Fun Cycling Uganda (FCU) – embarked on a challenging 360-kilometre ride to Kasese.

This journey will culminate in their participation in the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon on Saturday.

Known for their dedication to promoting cycling as a way to enhance physical fitness, protect the environment, and boost tourism, the group started their ride at 6 a.m. from the Independence Monument in central Kampala.

The journey is divided into three segments: the first covers 181 kilometres from Kampala to Kyegegwa, the second spans 103 kilometres from Kyegegwa to Fort Portal, and the final 75-kilometre stretch takes them from Fort Portal to Kasese.

Eddie Okila, Club Secretary of Fun Cycling Uganda, highlighted the significance of the ride, saying, “This 360-kilometre journey is a testament to the benefits of cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transport. It also showcases Uganda’s stunning landscapes, which ties in perfectly with the goals of the marathon.”

The ride aligns with the broader objectives of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, which aims to promote healthy living, boost tourism, and support local communities.

Okila emphasized the strong connection between Fun Cycling Uganda’s mission and that of the marathon, adding, “Our ride to Kasese is more than just a journey—it’s a symbolic act that complements the marathon’s goals. Both events aim to foster healthier lifestyles, promote tourism, and uplift local communities, working together to achieve these shared objectives.”

In a show of regional unity, a group of Kenyan cyclists will join Fun Cycling Uganda on the final leg of their journey from Fort Portal to Kasese.

The cyclists are expected to complete their three-day ride by Thursday, allowing them a day of rest on Friday before participating in the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon on Saturday morning.
