EU Ambassador Meets President’s Principal Private Secretary

H.E. Jan Sadek, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Uganda, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Kenneth Omona, the Principal Private Secretary to H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, on Tuesday.

The meeting primarily discussed the upcoming 3rd edition of the Uganda-EU Business Forum, with a focus on H.E. the President’s participation. Ambassador Sadek, accompanied by his Deputy, Mr. Guillaume Chartrain, and Ms. Caroline Adriaensen, Head of Cooperation, provided an overview of the Business Forum’s scope and outlined preparations for H.E. the President’s involvement.

Scheduled to take place from March 5 to 7, 2024, at Munyonyo, the Forum is co-organized by the EU Delegation to Uganda and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), in partnership with the Uganda Investment Authority, the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The theme of the Forum, “Boosting Trade and Investment: What can Uganda gain from the Global Gateway?”, aims to bring together Ugandan and European public and private sector stakeholders to promote trade and investments in sectors vital for Uganda’s economic growth.

Dr. Omona expressed confidence that H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni would attend the 3rd edition of the Uganda-EU Business Forum, highlighting the President’s regard for the EU as Uganda’s primary trade and investment partner. He emphasized President Museveni’s commitment to attracting investments to Uganda and promoting the country’s exports, anticipating that the Forum would effectively showcase Uganda’s potential and opportunities for business collaboration with the European Union.

Furthermore, Dr. Omona pledged to organize regular consultative meetings with the European Delegation to Uganda to enhance bilateral relations between the two entities.

Also present at the meeting were Dr. Christine Charity Mwebesa, Special Presidential Assistant for Economic Affairs, and Mr. Fred Moses Mukhooli, Head of the Foreign and Diplomatic Affairs Unit, State House.
