How Maj Magambo’s Detectives Struggled With Bobi Wine’s Henchman Mufumbiro As 25 NUP Bosses Are Placed On Security’s Wanted List.. – Ono Bwino

Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro the National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson has confirmed that he recorded more than 6 statements as detectives from police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were trying to fix the gaps to convince the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to sanction criminal charges against him.

One of the detectives who handled Mufumbiro confirmed to this investigative website that it was a struggle placing the boy from Busoga on the scene of crime so as to convince the DPP and not to embarrass their top bosses led by Maj Dr Tom Magambo the CID Director.

“The six statements he is talking about were recorded from him because he was denying having participated in the unlawful drilling, which was the reason why he was arrested. But we were very careful when dealing with him to avoid the embarrassing incident we got when Eddy Mutwe was arrested,” a senior detective said.

He added that Mufumbiro told them that on the fateful day when his boss Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) inspected the unlawful drilling, he was not at their party headquarters at Makerere Kavule because he was attending to an emergency concerning his wife.

He explained to them that it is true he wanted to attend the ceremony but his wife insisted on him escorting her to Mulago Cancer Institute where she had an appointment with her doctors.

One of the lawyers who was present when Mufumbiro was recording his statement disclosed that his client wondered why the detectives didn’t use the phone mast radar to confirm where he was because Mufumbiro always moves with his phone.

He added that after establishing that there were gaps in that charge, they went back and after several hours, Mufumbiro was re-called to record another statement on charges related to cyber harassment, criminal defamation and cyber bullying. He was informed that it was top government and opposition leaders who made complaints against him.

“By the time we left police at midnight, we were very sure that DPP was going to sanction charges related to cyber and criminal defamation but we were shocked that he was charged with unlawful drilling, but we think that it was sanctioned to make military chiefs happy because they have over complained about that parade,” the lawyer said.

Because they were scared over other top party leaders’ arrests, a decision was taken at night to beef up their defence legal team and on that ground, criminal law giant counsel Evens Ochieng a personal lawyer to Speaker Annet Anita Among and counsel Alex Luganda a close friend to Mufumbiro and also the Busoga Kingdom Attorney General were added on the team.

This website has confirmed from Sarah Sharon Nambuya the Kawempe Chief State Attorney that State is looking for more than 25 individuals who are supposed to be added on the file of the unlawful drilling

Those on run will join Edward Ssebuufu(Eddy Mutwe), Achilleo Kivumbi Calvin Tasi (Bobi Giant), Edwin Sserukuma (Eddy King Kabeja), Sharif Lukenge, Yasin Nyanzi, Tonny Kaweesi, Waiswa Mufumbiro and Sauda Madada who have already been charged and remanded to Luzira prison.

Highly placed sources said that among the suspects on the wanted list is Bobi Wine himself and his wife Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi who led the inspection of the unlawful drilling parade and their arrest will be sanctioned by President Museveni who directed that for any issue concerning Bobi Wine and Dr Kizza Besigye, he should be the last person to issue a directive.

Sources said that Museveni issued the directive after establishing that a top military general was threatening to arrest Bobi Wine through his juniors and to avoid the November 2020 incident where more than 100 Ugandans were killed and others survived with serious injuries.

Sources said that as the search for NUP leaders to be added on the list goes on, a number of foot soldiers who participated in the unlawful drilling have run into hiding with some accusing Bobi Wine’s elder brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu of leaking their names to security when he was arrested.

“But if they arrest Mufumbiro, it means that even Joel Ssenyonyi will be also arrested because Mufumbiro and Ssenyonyi were not there on that day,” one of the foot soldiers told this website.

Lawyer Male Mabirizi insist that opposition should come together and challenge the unlawful drilling charge in the Constitutional Court insisting that it is outdated and violates people’s rights of expression.
