FEMRITE’S Climb To The Heights of Mountain Kilimanjaro For a Cause – Ultimate News

On July 23, 2024 Hilda Twongyeirwe the Executive Director of the Uganda Women Writers Association set off for Tanzania to complete a major feat, climbing up to the peak of Mountain Kilimanjaro.

This however it is not an ordinary mountaineering experience because this time Hilda Twongyeirwe who has reached the Rwenzori Mountain Summit before, is climbing on a campaign to reach out to communities of interest supportive of writing and creative work with a call for financial contribution towards the purchase of property that will accommodate the Uganda Women Writers Association Writing and Wellness Centre.

Hilda Twongyeirwe explains her gesture comparing Mountain climbing to the quest of getting over 500 million Ugandan shillings to purchase land and construct the facility.

Over the years, covering over 2 decades FEMRITE (Uganda Women Writers Association) has made a mark in the literally world nurturing both female and male writers, creating a safe space for writers creativity, organizing writing clinics and more. From these efforts award winning writers such as Glaydah Namukasa and Beatrice Lamwaka.

The organization has come of age and seeks to affirm it’s sustainability for the future generations of writers by owning their own property; specifically a Writing and Wellness Centre where writers can expand their creativity, learn and unlearn as well as enjoy a safe space.
