Fire Razes School Dormitory in Mbarara, Students’ Property Burnt to Ashes



The Police in Mbarara City South Division are investigating a case of suspected arson that occurred on Friday morning at around 4 Am where a fire gutted a boy’s dormitory of Shuhudal Islamic Secondary School located in Nyamitanga cell, Mbarara City South Division. The burnt hostel houses 202 students of S.2 and 3.

According to the Rwizi Region Police spokesman SP Samson Kasasira, Police Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene after receiving the information and managed to put out the fire with assistance from the Nyamitanga Diocese Fire Brigade.

The students housed in Dar-es-salam dormitory were able to escape without injuries apart from one Baingana Sulaiman, 17 years who got injuries on his back and arms

Kasasira adds that there was total damage to property in the dormitory but the Police Fire department was able stop the it from spreading to other structures

The cause of the fire has not been established yet but investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
