Former State Minister for Finance and General Duties, Dr. Gabriel Ajedra Aridru, has declared his intention to contest for the Vurra County seat in the upcoming 2026 elections, aiming to reclaim the position he lost after one term.
Having previously represented Vurra County, Dr. Ajedra was unseated by former LC3 chairman Mr. Yovan Adriko in the previous election cycle. Despite his defeat, Dr. Ajedra remains resolute in his determination to represent his constituency once again.
During a press conference, Dr. Ajedra expressed his motivation to address unfinished projects that he initiated during his previous tenure, emphasizing the importance of completing initiatives such as rural electrification and water projects. He noted that leaving projects incomplete has weighed on his conscience and fueled his desire to return to office.
Dr. Ajedra’s political career spans various roles, including serving as the State Minister for Investment and Privatization while representing Arua Municipality from 2011 to 2016. He later transitioned to represent Vurra County and served as the State Minister for Finance and General Duties from 2016 to 2021.

In addition to his bid for office, Dr. Ajedra called upon the government to expedite the relocation of Arua District offices to improve service accessibility and to address property-sharing issues in Arua City.
Meanwhile, preparations for the upcoming NRM party registration are underway, with the deputy Arua Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Denis Okwaimungu Jawoko, ensuring security measures to prevent foreign interference in internal elections. Given Vurra’s proximity to the Democratic Republic of Congo, efforts are being made to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
