Former Minister Nandutu asks Court for Linient Sentence

Kampala– A few days after Anti Corruption High Court has convicted former Minister for state Minister for Karamoja Affairs Hon. Agness Nandutu, with offence of dealing with suspect Property, court is expected to deliver the sentence today.

Nandutu who has been produced in Court before Lady Justice, Jane Okuo Kajuga, during mitigation, she has apologized to all those that were affected by actions and asked for forgiveness.

“I would like to say that am sorry to the appointing authority, am sorry to the people of Karamoja and the whole country at large.”

She stated that this was something in which she was misled and when she realized that it was wrong, she voluntarily surrendered all the iron sheets she had to Police.

Nandutu told Court that she is the first time offender, she is sickly, the situation which keeps her in and out of the hospital.

“Am a single of four school going children, the only person able to provide for my biological family with my ailing mother of 50 years suffering from High blood pressure.”

She further added that he health situation and the pressure resulting from the case before Court resulted into the death of her beloved father. Thereby requesting the trial judge to be linient and grant her a fair sentence.

On convicting Nandutu, court relied on evidence that between June and July 2022, the Hon. Nandutu Agness dealt with government property consisting of 2,000 pre-painted iron sheets of gauge 28 marked “Office of the Prime Minister”. She received and retained the said iron sheets at the Office of the Prime Minister stores in Namanve and later at her residence in Mukono District, in circumstances where she had reason to believe that the property had been irregularly obtained as a result of loss of public property.
