Former MUK Guild Alionzi Declared Arua City Mayor

Arua- The Electoral Commission has declared former Makerere University Guild President, Lawrence Alionzi as the new elected Mayor of Arua City.

Alionzi who contested on National Resistance Movement (NRM), garnered 32,663 votes, Draecabo Trinity Ceasor, an Independent, got 3,197 votes, and Democratic Party’s (DP) Piriyo Gasper, got 1,712 votes.

The total number of valid votes is 37,572, while invalid votes stand at 927, bringing the total number of ballot papers cast to 38,499.

Last year, Alionzi crossed from National Unity Platform (NUP), joined NRM and later participated in the party Primaries where he emerged a victor.

In the Party Primaries held in July, Alionzi defeated the incumbent Mayor, Sam Wadri Nyakua, with over 24,300 votes, while Isa Kato, the third candidate, polled 4,200 votes.
