At least four people were confirmed dead and 11 others seriously injured after two taxis collided at Kiwawu along the Mityana-Kampala road in Mityana District.
The crash occurred on Friday night and involved two Toyota Hiace vehicles. The incident happened when the driver of a speeding taxi from Kampala lost control after hitting a pothole in the Kiwawu-Kasiba LC1 area. The taxi veered off its lane and collided with another taxi coming from Mityana.
Both vehicles lost control, causing one of the taxis to overturn on its right-hand side, resulting in the deaths of four passengers and injuries to 11 others. The deceased were identified as Assuman Bossa, a 24-year-old resident of Buwawula in Mityana District; Tinah Namugenyi, a 26-year-old resident of Kasalaga-Zigoti in Mityana District, and a young girl and boy whose details were not available at the time of the report.
The bodies were taken to Mityana General Hospital for post-mortem examinations following the collision, which occurred at 11 pm. The wreckage of both vehicles was towed to Mityana police station for inspection, but the drivers of the taxis are still unknown and reportedly at large.
The crash was attributed to reckless driving. This incident comes just two days after another tragic accident where 15 market vendors from Mityana died and over 30 were injured when the truck they were traveling in overturned at Namirayngo village in Bukuya Sub County, Kassanda District on June 19.
