Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly hailed Sudhir Ruparelia, describing him as “the richest and smartest businessman in Africa” following his participation in the recent “Run For Hope” initiative.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Muhoozi expressed gratitude to the veteran investor for attending the birthday run held in celebration of his 52nd birthday.
“I thank our beloved elder Mr. Sudhir Ruparelia for attending the birthday run. He is the richest and smartest business man in Africa,” Muhoozi wrote.
The endorsement from Muhoozi adds a new layer of recognition to Sudhir’s long-standing influence in Uganda’s private sector, where he has built a reputation as one of the country’s most prominent investors and entrepreneurs.
Sudhir’s presence at the run was not merely symbolic. The businessman reportedly contributed UGX 100 million toward the “Run For Hope” initiative, a charitable event aimed at raising awareness and support for healthcare challenges in Uganda.
According to David Kabanda, Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Sudhir ranked among the top contributors to the cause.
“Our patriotic investor Sudhir Ruparelia, Mr Abu Mukasa and State House stand out among the premium top funders of this initiative. This is the spirit of patriotism and commitment to national causes,” Kabanda noted during the event.
Beyond financial support, Sudhir also demonstrated personal commitment by joining hundreds of participants at Kololo Independence Grounds in the early morning hours, taking part in the marathon alongside ordinary citizens, leaders, and members of the business community.
The event attracted a broad cross-section of attendees, including political leaders and senior government officials. Although Muhoozi was not physically present, he was represented by Thomas Tayebwa, who officiated as chief guest.
Other notable figures included Henry Okello Oryem and Kale Kayihura, highlighting the event’s prominence on Uganda’s national calendar.
Held under the theme “Run For Hope,” the marathon went beyond celebration, drawing attention to persistent healthcare challenges such as limited access to medical services, shortages of essential medicines, and a low doctor-to-patient ratio across the country.
Sudhir Ruparelia’s contribution and participation reflect a broader trend of private sector leaders increasingly engaging in national development and social impact initiatives. His involvement brought both financial backing and symbolic leadership to the event.
As hundreds of runners turned up in branded kits, the initiative evolved into a blend of fitness, philanthropy, and civic engagement. At the center of it all was Sudhir, praised at the highest levels and visibly present on the ground, reinforcing his standing as both a business leader and a key figure in Uganda’s socio-economic landscape.
