Hockey: Wananchi Too Good For Weatherhead

Wananchi Hockey Club (W) kicked off the second round of the National Hockey League with a commanding 4-1 win over Weatherhead Historicals to maintain their position atop the table.

The record league winners went into the break with a two-point lead; on league’s return they clobbered the Historicals to maintain their status quo.

Doreen Asimwe with a brace, Doreen Mbabazi and Alimo all registered their names on the score sheet so did Dhamuzungu for her side albeit a consolation.

With Kampala Hockey Club Swans losing 1-0 to Wananchi-HDF, Wananchi are now three points clear at the top.

Kampala Swans- the defending champions- sat second in the table standings prior this weekend, but their narrow loss to HDF sees them now in third, 5 points behind the leaders.

Weatherhead began the round with a 3-0 win over Deliverance Church. Weatherhead are currently struggling in the league, but they managed to register a convincing win which took them up the table to fourth.

In the men’s division, table leaders Weatherhead pummeled Badgers 12-2 on Sunday. Timothy Ntumba was the architecture once again as he put 6 past Badgers.

Ntumba now counts 12 goals in two games after his excellent performance against Weatherhead Titans last weekend that saw him score six.

With 24 goals to his name this season, Ntumba leads the goalscoring charts in the men’s division. He is now two clear of Kampala Stallion’s Jordan Mpiima.

Mpiima not only saw Ntumba topple him, he also witnessed his side Kampala Stallion get thumped by Wananchi.

KHC headed into the game placed second in the table standings, and buzzing with confidence after their deserved victory against Wananchi at the end of the first round, but Wananchi came with a different game plan on Sunday.
