I killed Mayuge family of four in revenge, SFC soldier confesses

Pte Herbertson Birivumbika, a UPDF soldier attached to the Special Forces Command( SFC) who was arrested for  allegedly shooting dead four family members and injuring others in Mayuge has confessed to the murder.

The UG Bulletin has learnt that  Pte Birivumbuka confessed to SFC investigators that his was an act of revenge for his family members.

“He says he revenged by shooting his close family members because they allegedly killed his mother and wife. He says these family members poisoned his mother and wife,” a source privy to the ongoing investigations into the gruesome murder told this website.

In the incident that happened on Saturday night at Namutale village, Kabayingire parish, Buwaya sub county, Mayuge district Pte Herbertson Birivumbuka walked into the home of Buyinza Mudhasi Isaac 40, and started spraying bullets into the house.

Mudhasi and his three children were killed on the spot while five other family members were critically injured.

The Special Forces Command said on Monday that the soldier   had escaped from his duty station and travelled to Namatale Village, Kabayingire Parish, Buwaya Sub-county in Mayuge where he allegedly committed the crime

“Once he returned, he was arrested because all fingers pointed to him. He is detained in our facility awaiting the long arm of the law to dispense justice,” Maj Jimmy Omara, the SFC spokesperson said on Monday.

Contacted for a comment on the matter on Wednesday, the SFC spokesperson said investigations are going on well before arraigning the suspect before the Division Court Martial of Special Force Command.

“Our investigators are making a breakthrough and are moving well with gathering facts surrounding the killing in Mayuge,” Maj Omara said.

SFC on Monday described the incident as being sad and regrettable.

“This is a very sad and regrettable incident; we would like to condole with the affected families. As a Command, we would also like to ask the people of Namale to cooperate with the investigators so that the suspect is quickly brought forward to face the law,” Maj Omara said.

“As UPDF (SFC), we would like to assure the population that our strategic relationship with the wanainchi (citizens) will be highly maintained as we weed out errant members of the force.”
