General Jeje Odongo, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently concluded a visit to Turkey, where he emphasized the importance of supporting conflict prevention initiatives led by regional and sub-regional organizations. Additionally, he called for reforms within the United Nations Security Council to ensure its effectiveness in addressing global challenges.

Odongo participated in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) held from 1st to 3rd March 2024 in Turkey, representing President Yoweri Museveni. During the forum’s high-level discussions, he stressed the necessity of collaborative efforts to understand and mitigate the root causes of conflicts, highlighting the crucial role of international cooperation in achieving global peace.

Advocating for stronger collaboration, Odongo emphasized the significance of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in addressing global challenges. As the current Chair of NAM, Uganda aims to foster solidarity and multilateralism among member countries to enhance the Movement’s influence within the United Nations.

The ADF serves as a platform for discussions on various international issues, with this year’s theme focusing on “Advancing Diplomacy in Times of Turmoil.” Odongo’s participation in the forum allowed him to engage in meaningful dialogues aimed at addressing global crises and promoting diplomatic solutions.

Both ministers expressed a commitment to expedite pending investment promotion agreements and agreed on the necessity of convening the next meeting of the Turkey-Uganda Joint Economic Commission.

Accompanied by Uganda’s Head of Mission in Turkey, Nusura Tiperu, Odongo also engaged with representatives of Turkish enterprises, inviting them to invest in Uganda’s priority sectors. These interactions aim to foster economic cooperation between Uganda and Turkey, contributing to mutual development and prosperity.
