Kabale District starts building staff houses at Maziba Health Centre IV – The Black Examiner

On Monday, the Kabale District Local Government officially initiated the construction of four twin staff residences at Maziba Health Centre IV in Maziba Sub County, with the aim of improving service delivery at the facility.

Januario Bagamuhunda, the Kabale District Engineer, declared during the launch held at the facility premises that the contract for building the houses had been granted to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade at a total cost of 681 Million Shillings.

Maziba Health Centre IV, catering to over 1,300 monthly patients from Ndorwa East County and neighboring Rwanda, currently employs 42 health workers, with fewer than ten residing on-site.

The funding, amounting to 681 Million Shillings, was secured through the advocacy efforts of Wilfred Niwagaba, the Member of Parliament for Ndorwa East County, and Catherine Atwakire Ndamira, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament. Dr. Gilbert Mateeka, the Kabale District Health Officer, stressed the importance of the construction, citing the adverse impact of the lack of accommodation on the performance of health workers at the facility.

Niwagaba, Ndamira, and Flavia Kanagizi, the Kabale District Speaker, underscored the persistent accommodation challenges at the facility. They encouraged health workers to make use of the new houses upon completion to enhance overall service delivery.
