*KCCA 2-0 Kitara
*Wakiso Giants 1-0 Mbale Heroes
KCCA picked up their second win of the Uganda Premier League season, defeating Kitara FC 2-0 at the Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
First half goals from Saidi Mayanja and Derrick Nsibambi ensured maximum points for the hosts.
Mayanja opened the scoring in the 11th minute, finishing coolly after Shafik Nana Kwikiriza made an impressive solo run from deep, cutting through Kitara’s defense.
Nsibambi doubled the lead just before halftime in the 43rd minute, capitalizing on a poor clearance by Kitara goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima, beating him to the ball and squeezing it home from a tight angle.
Kitara endured a frustrating first half, losing two key players, Eric Muber and new signing Rogers Mugisha, to injury
The side failed to get their rhythm and struggled to create meaningful chances.
Denis Omedi, who was rumored to be on KCCA’s radar during the transfer window, failed to make a significant impact.
Despite some near chances from debutants Umar Lutalo and Moses Sseruyidde, and a close miss by defender Arthur Kiggundu on a Kabon Living cross, Kitara couldn’t break KCCA’s defense.
This win will likely boost KCCA coach Abdallah Mubiru’s confidence, especially after his pre-match comments labeling Kitara as “a small team on form.”
Tensions were high before kickoff, with Kitara having beaten KCCA twice last season and once again in the FUFA Super Eight tournament last month.
Despite the relaxed atmosphere at the start, the packed stadium reflected the significance of the match.
KCCA, who beat URA in their opener and drew with BUL, now move to seven points.
Kitara, meanwhile, suffer their second loss of the season, having previously won against Lugazi but lost to NEC on Matchday Two.
What next – KCCA visit Bright Stars on October 1 while Kitara welcome Police in Hoima on October 3.
