Preview: KCCA – Kitara: Battle lines drawn
KCCA FC will host Kitara FC under the Lugogo floodlights on match-day three of the Uganda Premier League, in a game already charged with intrigue.
Coach Abdallah Mubiru has fueled anticipation by downplaying Kitara’s stature, calling them “not a big team” despite their impressive rise.
Kitara, who won the Uganda Cup and finished fourth in last season’s league campaign after their return to top-flight football, boast a growing reputation.
Their performance last season was highlighted by beating KCCA both home and away, a feat that firmly put them on the radar.
The Hoima-based side has built a passionate fanbase and now plays its home matches at the newly established Royals Park Stadium.
Kitara believes they have cemented their place among the league’s top contenders, but Mubiru disagrees.
The KCCA boss maintained that Kitara are simply a team in form, not in the league of traditional Ugandan football powerhouses like SC Villa, Express, Vipers, and KCCA itself.
Further adding to the narrative is KCCA’s failed pursuit of Kitara’s prolific striker Denis Omedi during the recent transfer window.
Omedi earlier scored the only goal as Kitara beat KCCA in Super 8 at Lugogo, and he will hope his presence be keenly felt once again.
KCCA come into this encounter following a 1-1 draw against BUL FC, after winning their opening game 1-0 against URA.
Kitara, meanwhile, opened their season with a dominant 3-0 win over Lugazi, before suffering a 2-1 home defeat against NEC.
Adding spice to the encounter, Kitara recently unveiled former KCCA forward Patrick Kaddu, along with Rogers Mugisha.
