Kenneth Ssemakula: SC Villa Captain Departs After Historic Title Win

SC Villa’s captain Kenneth Ssemakula has officially announced his departure from the club, just days after leading the team to their record-extending 17th Uganda Premier League (UPL) title.

The versatile player, known for his roles in both defense and midfield, shared the news in a heartfelt farewell letter, expressing his gratitude and fond memories of his time with the club.

In his letter, Ssemakula praised his teammates, the administration, and the fans, saying, “As my time with this incredible club draws to a close, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as your skipper and player over these last seasons.”

Reflecting on their recent success, Ssemakula added, “As I bid farewell, I leave with a heart full of memories and a sense of pride in all that we have accomplished together. The 17th UPL title we clinched in the 2023/24 season will always hold a special place in my heart, but it’s the camaraderie, the friendship, and the sense of belonging that I will cherish the most.”

He continued, “Thank you, Sports Club Villa, for welcoming me with open arms, for embracing me as one of your own, and for allowing me to be part of something truly special. I will carry the memories of my time here with me wherever I go, and I wish you all nothing but the best in the future.”

Ssemakula captained Villa to the league title of this concluded campaign, clinching the title on last day of the season with a needed win against NEC.

That triumph ended Villa’s wait for league success since 2004.

Ssemakula’s departure follows the expiration of his three-year contract, which he signed in August 2021 after transferring from BUL FC.

Prior to his tenure at BUL, he played for Busoga United.

His impressive performances before joining Villa earned him a spot on the Uganda Hippos (U-20) squad that reached the Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania in 2021, and he now leaves Villa as a full Uganda Cranes player.

Speculation is rife that Ssemakula is eyeing a move abroad.
