Lukwago Suffers Setback In Fight To Oust NUP’s Kateregga From Makerere University Council As KCCA Representative… – Ono Bwino

Justice Barnard Namanya of the Civil Division of the High Court has issued a temporary order stopping the execution of Kampala Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago’s directive of removing National Unity Platform’s Julius Kateregga as Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) representative on Makerere university council

Kateregga petitioned Court accusing Lukwago of not following the right procedure when he was removing him from the university council noting that the process was supposed to be approved by KCCA council which never happened.

In the new changes, Lukwago also sent the deputy lord mayor Doreen Nyanjura to represent KCCA at Uganda Management Institute (UMI) without following the required process.

Efforts to get a comment from Lukwago were futile since he did not pick our calls by the time we published this story.

The development comes at a time when there is a sharp fight between Lukwago and NUP KCCA councilors resulting from the Nakivubo drainage channel deal.

Lukwago accuses KCCA councilors led by their council speaker Zahara Luyirika of passing a resolution allowing controversial city tycoon Hamis Kiggundu to build commercial buildings on top of the drainage chabbel.

Lukwago claims the right process was not followed.

The councilors including Kateregga issued a statement denying the allegation. Other City Hall sources told this website that Lukwago removed Kateregga from the university council because he spenda a long period without sitting on the council

Kateregga is among the KCCA Councilors who abandoned their KCCA responsibilities and traveled abroad for greener pastures only to return into the country early this year.

A number of his colleagues who ran out of the country and only returned during the time of elections were punished by the party which denied them party tickets in the coming 2026 elections

It should be noted that even in the 2021 elections, NUP denied Kateregga a former Makerere university guild president a ticket and he contested on independent and won.

He has already declared to do the same in the coming elections.
