Man charged, remanded for financing, mobilising logistics for ADF

A 31-year-old man has been charged and remanded  for financing terrorism activities by ADF group.

Swalleh Abubaker, also known as Isaac Mupeta, aka Dog City aka Tom Kivuruge a businessman was on Monday arraigned before Buganda Road Chief magistrates court and charged with terrorism financing contrary to section 9A(1) (a) and (4) of the Anti Terrorism Act.

Prosecution told court that between 2018 and April in diverse areas of Uganda, DRC, Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa directly and indirectly mobilized funds and procured digital watches, power banks, as well other essential supplies for ADF

He is also accused of recruiting and transferring recruits to ADF in eastern DRC .

The state also accused Kivuruge of rendering support to a terrorist organization contrary to section 8 of the Anti Terrorism Act as well as belonging to a terrorist organization contrary to section 11 (1)  (a) and 3 of the Anti Terrorism Act .

Buganda Road chief magistrate, Ronald Kayizzi told the accuse not to take plea since he is facing capital offences that can only tried by the High Court.

The state prosecutors including Joan Keko and Ivan Kyazze told court that Kivuruge’s co-accused, Sulaiman Nsubuga would be produced to court later after he was earlier remanded on charges of unlawful possession of a fire arm.

The trial magistrate remanded Kivuruge to Luzira prison until July, 16.
