A Ugandan man calling himself Jesus has been remanded to prison after being charged with refusal to be counted during the ongoing national housing and population census.
Navas Veran, a leader of a cult at Luyima Village in Luwero district was on Wednesday together with Erishani Gresher, one of his followers arraigned before the magistrates court and charged with obstruction of an officer in performance of duties contrary to section 28 of the Uagnda Bureau of Statistics Act.
Prosecution told court that Navas and his followers refused to give information to enumerators.
When the charges were read, Veran pleaded guilty prompted the trial magistrate, Christopher Tindyebwa Adyeeri to remand him to Butuntumula government prison until May, 29, to receive his sentence.
The law
Section 28 of the UBOS Act states that any person who hinders or obstructs an authorised officer in the lawful performance of any duties under this act commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding thirty currency points or imprisonment not exceeding six months or both.
