Kampala– His Worship John Paul Edoku on Friday presided over the swearing-in of Mr. Moses R. Mauku as a new member of the National Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), representing the workers’ constituency.
The ceremony took place at Rwenzori House on Lumumba Avenue in Kampala and was attended by Council members and Secretariat staff.
In his remarks, HW Edoku commended the Council leadership for its sustained dedication to national service. He urged members to uphold the values of integrity, accountability and commitment in executing their mandate, emphasizing the need for institutional collaboration to strengthen governance and service delivery.
The Chairperson of the Council, Mr. Albert Byamugisha, described the swearing-in as a significant milestone marking Mr. Mauku’s formal assumption of office. He noted that the ceremony underscored the Council’s commitment to inclusive representation and participatory governance.
Mr. Byamugisha observed that workers remain a vital pillar in national development, stressing that their voice within the Council is essential to ensuring that deliberations and decisions reflect the lived realities and aspirations of citizens.
He also paid tribute to Mr. Moses Bigirwa, who has served on the National Governing Council since October 2018, applauding his dedication and valuable contribution during his tenure.
The Chairperson emphasized that the oath taken by Mr. Mauku signified not only the assumption of office but also the continuity of the Council’s work through renewed leadership and representation. Expressing confidence in the new member, Mr. Byamugisha said he believes Mr. Mauku will discharge his responsibilities with integrity, diligence and a strong sense of public service.
On behalf of the Council, he congratulated the new member and expressed anticipation of his active and impactful participation in its deliberations.
The APRM is a continental governance initiative under the African Union. In Uganda, its coordination and implementation are housed under the National Planning Authority, which serves as the National Focal Point and provides Secretariat support to the National Governing Council.
