Three incumbent legislators who lost in the recent NRM party primaries have been duly nominated by the electoral commission to contest as independent candidates in the 2026 general elections.
In Rwampara district, woman MP Molly Asiimwe Musiime secured her nomination as an independent candidate, declaring that her decision to seek re-election is motivated by a commitment to complete key development projects that remain unfinished.
She cited the Nyakiraguju–Bugamba–Kitwe and Ruti–Mwizi–Kabuyanda roads, which were included in the National Development Plan IV, as major projects she hopes to see tarmacked in her next term.
In Mbarara district, Bazil Bataringaya Rwakwene, the incumbent MP for Kashari North Constituency and chairperson of the Ankole Region Parliamentary Caucus, was also nominated to run as an independent after losing in the NRM primaries. Bataringaya pledged to focus on improving education and health services in his constituency if re-elected.
Similarly, Margaret Ayebare Rwebyabu, the incumbent Woman MP for Mbarara District, has been nominated as an independent candidate. Rwebyabu, who also lost in the NRM primaries, said her second term will prioritize the enhancement of the health and education sectors across the district.
