Mufti Mubaje Urges Stronger Quranic Education for Children as 31 Graduate in Yumbe

The Mufti of Uganda, Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has called on Muslim parents to intensify efforts in teaching their children the Holy Quran, emphasizing that strong Islamic education is key to nurturing responsible adults with firm moral values.

The message was delivered on his behalf by the Second Deputy Mufti, Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, who presided as Chief Guest at the second pass-out ceremony of 31 young Muslims who memorized the Quran at Huwal Qur’an Islamic Centre in Yumbe, West Nile Region, on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Addressing a well-attended congregation, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya warned that contemporary society presents emerging ideologies and trends that may mislead Muslims, urging parents to ensure their children remain grounded in Islamic teachings. He noted that only those who learn and practice the Quran can preserve their faith and identity.

He also highlighted the historical journey of Ugandan Muslims in preserving Quranic knowledge, praising earlier generations for sustaining Islamic scholarship and promoting moral values.

The Mufti commended Muslims in West Nile for maintaining unity, which he said has enabled the community to implement various development initiatives. On behalf of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council headquarters, he pledged full bursaries for five students and half bursaries for 30 learners at his primary school in Bombo, Luwero District, and secondary school in Bwebajja, Entebbe, Wakiso District.

He further pledged to provide Iftar meals during the upcoming Ramadan period at major mosques in Arua, Koboko, and Yumbe.

The ceremony was attended by several Muslim leaders led by Sheikh Mahdi Raihan, the Regional Assistant to the Mufti, who briefed participants on the state of Muslim affairs in the West Nile region.

Following the event, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya visited Arua City, where he toured the near-completed Irshad Mosque and its commercial complex comprising several shops. He later joined the Muslim faithful for Magreb prayers and engaged them in discussions on Islamic teachings until Isha prayers.
