Speaking during the event, the Chief Administrative Officer of Mukono District, Henry Ddamba, commended the Buganda Kingdom under His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for complementing government efforts in improving public health, particularly in the fight against HIV/AIDS. He noted that despite reduced donor funding over the years, the Government of Uganda has remained committed to combating the disease.

The NRM District Chairperson, Haruna Ssemakula, appreciated the Kingdom for taking a leading role in mobilizing communities to prioritize their health. He urged the public to embrace regular HIV testing, know their status, and remain vigilant, emphasizing that the virus still exists.

The Kyaggwe County Chief (Sekiboobo), Vincent Matovu Bintubizibu, applauded the people of Buganda for actively participating in the run as the Kabaka marked 71 years. He emphasized that the event is not merely a celebration but a strategic effort aimed at eliminating HIV/AIDS by 2030.

He cautioned the public against complacency, noting that the availability of treatment should not lead to neglect of preventive measures. He encouraged communities to continue testing, adhere to treatment, and remain responsible in safeguarding their health.

The event was attended by several leaders, including Daisy Sarah Ssonko Nabatanzi, Robert Mwesigwa Ssentongo, and other district and local leaders representing the District Chairperson Peter Bakaluba Mukasa.

Leaders collectively emphasized the importance of unity, awareness, and community participation in addressing public health challenges and improving livelihoods.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the Kabaka’s 71st birthday celebrations scheduled for Monday, 13th April 2026 at St. Orthodox Nicholas Cathedral, where His Majesty is expected to mark this important milestone.

The 2026 Kabaka Birthday Run in Mukono highlighted the power of unity between cultural institutions, government, and communities in tackling national challenges. As Uganda continues the fight against HIV/AIDS, sustained efforts in awareness, testing, and treatment adherence remain critical. With continued collaboration and commitment, the vision of ending HIV/AIDS by 2030 is achievable, paving the way for healthier and more resilient communities.
