President Museveni has appointed Abas Byakagaba as the new Inspector General of Police with immediate effect.
Byakagaba earlier this month retired from the police force where he served as the Counter Terrorism director and handed over office to his deputy, Frank Mwesigwa.
He now fills the position left behind be John Martins Okoth Ochola who a few months ago retired as police chief.
According to changes announced on Friday evening, AIGP James Ochaya who has been serving as director for research and planning as the new deputy Inspector General of Police to replace Maj Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi whose term ended and has been recalled to the UPDF.
Massive shakeup
In the latest changes, the president has recalled almost all UPDF officers who had been deployed in the Police force, except Brig Christopher Ddamulira and AIGP Tom Magambo.
The changes have seen Hadijah Namutebi appointed as the new Director of Research, Planning, and Development, a position previously held by AIGP Ochaya.
In other changes, SCP Moses Kafeero is the new Human Resources Director to replace Brig Godfrey Golooba who returns to the UPDF.
Others are AIGP Fadil Kaali who is now the Director of Fire and Rescue Services to replace AIGP Joseph Mugisa, whose contract runs out in June.
AIGP John Nuwagira has been transferred to the Field Force Unit’s Commandant to replace Kaali.
SCP Frank Mwesigwa has been appointed the new police operations director, a position previously held by Nuwagira.
