President Museveni made these remarks on Wednesday at National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) headquarters Kampala saying graduates can contribute to the government’s vision by promoting patriotism, discipline, and hard work among citizens. He adds that they can engage in community activities, such as sensitizing masses on government programs and fighting corruption.

Patriotism is more than a sentimental attachment to one’s country. At its core, it is a guiding principle that channels loyalty into constructive action, civic responsibility, and a deep commitment to national development.

“As young people, you have a duty to love, serve, and uplift our nation regardless of our religious beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, or previous political affiliations. Instilling these values is not about creating blind followers but rather informed citizens who understand their role in shaping Uganda’s future,” Museveni said.

The congregation graced many pressure groups such as social, enterprise based groups among others who appealed to President Museveni to empower them. In response, president Museveni also directed the NRM secretariat to liaise with state house controller to engage with such groups and lay down strategies on how they should be assisted and empowered.

“These groups should form SACCOs and see how we can help them either on zonal level or parish level as we did to veterans, we can also empower them by working through NRM structures. We don’t know what is better for them; let the state house controller and NRM secretariat take charge of that,” Museveni said.

Kyakamukyaka is a military-style training program aimed at promoting discipline, hard work, and patriotism among participants. The primary goal of Kyakamukyaka training is to equip participants with essential life skills, promote national unity, and foster a sense of patriotism.

“The government would need to make a policy decision to reintroduce Kyakamukyaka training, considering its potential benefits and concerns. Reintroducing Kyakamukyaka training could help promote patriotism among Ugandans, particularly the youth, it could also help instill discipline and hard work ethic in participants,” Towdong said.

Hellen Seku, Commissioner of the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, expressed her gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for introducing developmental youth programs that have transformed the lives of many young Ugandans. These programs focus on promoting patriotism, wealth creation, and national development.
