Museveni distributes 50,000 coffee seedlings to Gomba, Ssembabule farmers

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has distributed 50,000 coffee seedlings to farmers in Gomba and Sembabule Districts as part of his ongoing efforts to alleviate poverty through commercial agriculture.

The beneficiaries, who come from Kirasi village in Gomba and Lutunku village in Sembabule, received the seedlings delivered by the State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye.

Ms. Barekye conveyed the president’s message to the farmers, emphasizing his commitment to helping his neighbors in these districts fight poverty.

“The President wants you people to be rich,” she told the beneficiaries, noting that Museveni, who owns a farm in Kisozi, Gomba, has made this contribution to support local farmers in improving their livelihoods.

Ms. Sarah Nalwanga, the poverty alleviation project coordinator for Gomba and Sembabule, announced that the President would continue to provide seedlings until all interested farmers in the nine villages across the two districts are covered.

“This particular project deals with only the president’s neighbors in the nine villages of Gomba and Sembabule. In Gomba, we have 4 villages, and in Sembabule, we have 5 villages that are benefiting from this project,” she explained.

“All those in the 9 villages who are interested in getting the coffee seedlings will get them,” Nalwanga assured.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his support and vowed to utilize the seedlings effectively to enhance their economic prospects.

“All that the President promised you will be fulfilled,” Nalwanga reiterated to the beneficiaries.

This initiative is part of a broader poverty eradication program launched by President Museveni in 2011 in Gomba and Sembabule.

The program began with the donation of cows, goats, coffee seedlings, pigs, banana tissues, poultry, and funds to households in nine villages across the two districts. These efforts aim to help residents generate income and improve their livelihoods.

The villages that have benefited from this program include Kirasi, Kisozi A, Kisozi B, and Kajumiro in Gomba, and Obutugu, Lutunku A, Lutunku B, Kasozi, and Kikuumadungu in Sembabule.

So far, 2,035 households have benefitted from the project, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and prosperity at the grassroots level.
