Museveni Highlights National Unity, Development Achievements in Moyo as Opposition Supporters Join NRM

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has reiterated his government’s commitment to national unity, emphasizing the inclusion of opposition leaders in key government positions as a sign of political maturity and cohesion.

Speaking at a campaign rally held at Celecelea Stadium in Moyo district, Museveni noted that the NRM government has made significant strides in fostering unity by involving opposition political figures in the governance process. He cited Democratic Party President Norbert Mao, currently serving as Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and Uganda People’s Congress member Betty Amongi, the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, as examples of his inclusive leadership.

Museveni emphasized that the NRM’s ideology of patriotism and unity has taken root across the country, urging the electorate in Moyo to renew the party’s mandate by re-electing him to safeguard the progress already achieved.

The rally also saw a notable political shift as over 150 supporters from opposition parties—specifically the National Unity Platform (NUP) and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)—crossed over to join the ruling NRM party.

During his address, Museveni outlined key economic and social infrastructure plans tailored for Moyo district. These include enhancements in road networks, electricity access, education, and healthcare services—all aimed at scaling up existing development efforts in the region.

He also reaffirmed NRM’s commitment to poverty eradication through long-standing and new wealth creation initiatives, including Entandikwa, Operation Wealth Creation, NAADS, Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Program, Women Empowerment Schemes, GROW, and the Parish Development Model.

Museveni called on residents of Moyo to support the NRM government to ensure sustainable household wealth and national development.

Meanwhile, the Moyo District NRM Chairperson, William Anyama, presented a number of requests for consideration in Museveni’s next term of office, aiming to further enhance development in the district.
