Over the past three months, Ugandans, particularly the subjects of King Mutebi have been demanding the return of the kind to Uganda and asking for his whereabouts but the Primer Charles Peter Mayiga has always called for calm and urging Baganda to be patient as the King undergoes medication in Namibia.
In May, some Bagandas protested in front of the Namibian Diplomatic Mission in the UK, demanding that the Namibian government discloses information on the King’s whereabouts to put to rest suspicions of kidnapping. The Namibian government, at the time, referred the group to the Buganda traditional authorities since King Mutebi II was on a private visit.
In a recent video address to his subjects, the King shed a line of hope and assured his people that he will soon return when the Doctors say so. However, going by this development, Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s continued stay at the Okonguari Psychotherapeutic Centre will be cut short if the authorities don’t revise their stance.
Last week, a group of Baganda Clan leaders were briefly detained by Namibian police after trying to visit the King at the hospital. These who had traveled over 300km from the capital were ordered to back or get clearance from the Mengo establishment.
In recently letter, Museveni branded the clan leaders opportunists who were making a life out of the King’s sickness and trying to visit him without clearance. The clan leaders prior to their long journey to Namibia had met Museveni at state house and State Minister for ICT Hon Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo revealed that the president had promised to bankroll their journey to check on the king.
Buganda Kingdom is in preparation to celebrate the 31st coronation of the King later this month and according to plans, their will be prayers across Buganda for the monarch and the main celebration will be held at the St Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe.
