During the operation in Northern Uganda, drugs mostly anti- malarias meant for a Health Center in Kole District were found in a drug shop owned by a health worker in Alebtong District.
The National Drug Authority (NDA) has impounded drugs worth sh54m. The drugs were impounded during an operation conducted in the districts of Northern Uganda and at the Busia and Malaba border points.
At least 180 boxes worth sh45m were impounded from the Northern districts of Agago, Kitgum, Amuru, Alebtong, Kwania, Gulu and Lira City while 8 boxes of assorted medicines and another containing anti- cancer medicines valued at sh9.7m were impounded from the border.
Tom Makumbi, a Senior inspector of drugs explained that the drugs impounded from the border were being transported in buses.

Dr. Zablon Igirikwayo Kwezira, the Regional Inspector of drugs blamed the community for promoting illegal drug shops.
He said that some drug shops are running clinics where substandard medicines were being freely administered.
Igirikwayo further explained that most drug shops lacked operational licenses and were also employing unqualified personnel.
The law provides for a punishment of two million shillings or 5 years in prison or both for operators not complying to the NDA requirements.
