The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, John Mulimba has officially received Dr. Robin Nandy, the newly appointed UNICEF Representative to Uganda, during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.
Dr. Nandy presented his credentials, marking the start of his tenure in the country.
In his welcome remarks, Hon. Mulimba praised UNICEF’s steadfast partnership in promoting the health, education, and well-being of children in Uganda.
He highlighted the critical role UNICEF has played in advancing Uganda’s development goals, particularly in initiatives that benefit the nation’s youth, describing children as the foundation of Uganda’s future.
The Minister also addressed the growing global challenges of climate change and pandemics, noting their direct impact on children’s welfare.
He reiterated Uganda’s commitment to working closely with UNICEF to confront these issues and emphasized the need for a joint approach to tackle social issues such as teenage pregnancies and early marriages.
Mulimba stressed that fostering a mindset change among Ugandans is key to achieving long-term progress.
Mulimba assured Dr. Nandy of Uganda’s continued strong partnership with UNICEF, pledging an open-door policy throughout his tenure.
He expressed confidence that Dr. Nandy’s leadership would enhance cooperation between Uganda and UNICEF, contributing to the achievement of key national development objectives.
In response, Dr. Robin Nandy thanked the Minister for the warm welcome and emphasized that UNICEF’s country cooperation program is aligned with Uganda’s development priorities.
He acknowledged the challenges of limited resources but noted that well-coordinated efforts would attract funding and support successful program implementation.
Dr. Nandy emphasized UNICEF’s focus on promoting social and behavioral change and building resilience in Ugandan communities, particularly in addressing the needs of vulnerable children.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their partnership to improve the lives of children and enhance Uganda’s capacity to address emerging challenges.
Dr. Nandy, an expert in global health and development, has extensive experience in immunization, child survival, and humanitarian response, having served in countries including Iran, Indonesia, and India.
His leadership is expected to be instrumental in advancing child rights and supporting Uganda’s development goals.
