The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has lost its Vice Chairperson for Karamoja region, Simon Peter Aleper. Aleper died in a motor accident along Iganga-Tirinyi Road.
Sources within NRM have disclosed that the deceased was travelling for the ruling party’s Central Executive Committee meeting to be held in Kampala.
Busoga East Region Police, in a statement, said the accident occurred at about 1:00am at Bukoona along Iganga-Tirinyi highway.
The accident was a head-on collision of a Toyota V8 registration number UAP 787Q and another whose specifics could not be readily established.
Aleper was driving the V8 and died on the spot, Police said.
The deceased was coming from Mbale side and collided with an unknown M/V which was coming from Iganga direction, lost control and veered off the road.
Aleper contested for the Moroto Municipality MP seat in the last general elections and lost to Francis Adome Lorika.
Through her X account, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among expressed her heartfelt condolences to the NRM national party chairperson, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the people of Karamoja sub-region.
Among’s message reads; “I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the family of the late Hon. Simon Peter Aleper, the NRM fraternity, and the Karamoja sub-region on his tragic passing. May the Lord bring comfort to everyone during this difficult time and may the soul of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
