Police in Ntungamo district have arrested a 36-year-old agricultural officer in connection with the suspected murder of his wife following a late-night incident earlier this week.
Tayebwa Rodgers, an agricultural officer attached to Rukoni and Rwoho town council, was taken into custody over the death of his wife, Akampurira Racheal, 33, who served as the Town Agent of Rukiga central ward in Mpora town council, Rukiga district.
The incident occurred on February 9, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m.
According to the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, the couple was reportedly riding on a motorcycle to Rubaare Town council when they were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants at Omungyenyi Katinda Bridge in Kyamugashe, Rwemiyaga Ward, Kakukuru Rwenanura Town council.
Rodgers informed police that a group armed with sticks killed his wife during an attack in which he escaped to get help, and they also stole his motorcycle and other belongings.
Police recovered Racheal’s body from under the bridge culverts and conveyed it to Itojo Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
SP Kasasira stated that preliminary investigations cast doubt on Rodgers’ account, revealing the couple had ongoing domestic disputes and that Rodgers had no injuries despite claiming an attack, and he is now in police custody while authorities investigate his potential role in his wife’s murder and the alleged robbery.
