NUP Unveils New Bukedea Flag Bearer: Bobi Wine Blasts Electoral Interference, Points Finger at Speaker Anita Among

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has named Florence Asio as its new flag bearer for the Bukedea District Woman MP seat, replacing Mercy Alupo, whose sudden removal from the national voters’ register has sparked outrage and accusations of political foul play.

NUP officials say Alupo’s deregistration was not only unexpected but also part of a broader campaign of sabotage allegedly orchestrated by high-ranking political figures, including the area’s current MP and Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.

Harriet Chemuntai, Chairperson of the NUP Election Management Committee, stated that the party was left with no option but to replace Alupo due to what she called “relentless interference” from local political forces.

“Our candidate, Mercy Alupo, faced continuous sabotage that crippled her campaign. This was not just administrative failure—it was deliberate political suppression. We now stand behind Florence Asio, a resilient leader committed to the people of Bukedea,” Chemuntai said.

NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, took a sharper tone while addressing a crowd in Bukedea. He condemned the Electoral Commission for failing to uphold electoral integrity and accused it of collusion with ruling party operatives to undermine opposition candidates.

“How can Anita Among frustrate not one, but two of her opponents, bend the system, and still stand as an ‘independent’ with no consequences?” Kyagulanyi challenged. “This is not just an attack on a candidate; it’s an insult to the people of Bukedea.”

He called on voters to rally behind Florence Asio, describing her as a symbol of resistance against political oppression.

“Florence Asio is your voice. She represents a stand against corruption, impunity, and manipulation. Electing her sends a clear message—Bukedea will not be bullied,” Kyagulanyi declared.
