Kampala,Uganda– The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has held a high-level meeting with the Netherlands Embassy and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) to explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration aimed at strengthening prosecutorial services and the broader justice system.
The meeting provided a platform for the three institutions to exchange ideas, align priorities and identify areas where support can bolster the capacity of the ODPP.
Ms. Barbara Kilei, Country Manager of IDLO, commended the strong working relationship between IDLO and the ODPP, highlighting what she described as “great achievements” realized through the partnership. She reaffirmed IDLO’s commitment to supporting the ODPP in addressing challenges affecting the implementation of its strategic objectives.
Mr. Odde de Jong, First Secretary at the Netherlands Embassy, expressed appreciation for the longstanding collaboration with the ODPP and the tangible benefits that have emerged over the years. He noted that the Embassy is keen on providing support in areas including security, stability and access to justice, among others.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Lino Anguzu, welcomed the continued partnership, describing it as instrumental in advancing the mandate of the ODPP. He cited key areas where the Netherlands Embassy and IDLO have contributed, including community engagement initiatives, performance review meetings for Regional Officers, construction of ODPP offices, witness preparation and support, and provision of legal materials.
Anguzu further outlined priority areas requiring additional support, such as witness preparation and protection, digital transformation of prosecutorial services, sensitization of law enforcement agencies and political leaders in the management of land-related matters, improved coordination among criminal justice actors, construction of offices, and support towards the Annual Prosecutors’ Symposium.
The ODPP expressed optimism that sustained collaboration with its development partners will enhance institutional capacity, promote accountability, and further advance the rule of law in Uganda.
