Okhuti Comes Out Of Retirement, Again!

For the second time in just a space of two years, Caesar Okhuti has returned from retirement to come back on the pitch and help directly solve Onduparaka’s goal-scoring woes.

The 33-year-old had at the end of last season (for the second time) officially announced his retirement from playing active football, so he could fully concentrate on his managerial and coaching career.

However, ahead of the 2024/25 FUFA Big League season, Onduparaka have announced that the veteran striker has reversed his earlier decision, and will now continue with the Caterpillars for another one year.

“Okhuti believes there is still more to play for in the coming season, aiming at taking the Club back to the UPL and also grabbing the top-scoring gong to have a befitting send off.”

“He retains his position as a coach-player, but hopes to focus more on the pitch to ensure the target is fully achieved,” Onduparaka confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.

The legendary striker had initially retired in 2021, after captaining Arua Hill to their first ever Big League title, and promotion to the top flight which they achieved unbeaten.

Last season, Okhuti was appointed as Onduparaka head coach, but would later on in the same year come out of retirement in a desperate move to try and directly help the club return to the top division.

Onduparaka didn’t qualify to the UPL, but Okhuti made history, and just showed everyone how good he still is.

Okhuti scored nine goals to finish the league as the club’s top scorer, as the Caterpillars finished fourth on the 15-team table, having accumulated 44 points – just three below the last UPL qualification slot occupied by Mbale Heroes (49).
