Uganda’s Sarah and Annet Chelangat settled for 12th and 21st places respectively in the Women’s 10,000m final at the Paris Olympics.
Sarah Chelangat, who had been running brilliantly, found herself out of steam with three laps remaining, causing her to fall behind the leading pack. She crossed the finish line in 31:02.37.
Her compatriot, Annet Chelangat, struggled to keep up with the pace, finishing 21st with a time of 31:50.41.
Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet, the World Record holder, claimed the gold medal with a time of 30:43.25.
Italy’s Nadia Battocletti put on a spectacular performance, earning the silver medal in 30:43.35.
Dending Champion Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands completed the podium, taking the bronze medal.
Uganda remains on two medals at the games, with Joshua Cheptegei securing gold in the Men’s 10,000m and Peruth Chemutai earning silver in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase.
Uganda will hope for success on Saturday morning as Victor Kiplangant, Stephen Kissa, and Andrew Kwemoi compete in the Men’s Marathon.
The Paris Olympics will conclude on Sunday where Uganda will be represented in the Women’s Marathon.
