Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament Independent candidate, Vianah Kemigisha Kashaya, was on Saturday night attacked by unidentified panga-wielding assailants near her home in Andrews, Mbarara City North Division.
According to Kemigisha, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. as she returned home and waited at her gate to be opened. She narrated that about seven men surrounded her vehicle, with one approaching and demanding to access the secrets on her phone, which was later taken.
“I called my girl to open the gate. As I waited, a man came towards me with a panga asking for secrets on my phone. He attempted to cut me, but I quickly ducked inside the car — that’s what saved me,” she recounted.
Kemigisha is currently receiving treatment at Western Medical and Maternity Center in Mbarara City.
Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are underway. “I don’t have full details yet, but our team has started investigations,” he said.
