Parliament has endorsed Stella Kiryowa and Fred Rwakaizi Bangumya as Uganda’s two representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The approval was made during a plenary sitting this week, filling Uganda’s two vacant positions in the regional Assembly.
“Parliament endorsed Stella Kiryowa and Fred Rwakaizi Bangumya to fill Uganda’s two vacant seats in the East African Legislative Assembly,” the House resolved.
The two representatives replace Dennis Namara, the Member of Parliament for Buyaga West County, and James Kakooza, who represented Older Persons for the Central Region.
Namara and Kakooza left their EALA positions after being elected to serve in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
Following the endorsement, Kiryowa and Rwakaizi will join Uganda’s delegation to Arusha, Tanzania, where they will participate in regional law-making, oversight, and representation of Uganda’s interests within the East African Community (EAC).
EALA is the legislative arm of the East African Community, with each Partner State entitled to nine elected representatives.
