Police in Wakiso District have arrested one suspect in connection with an aggravated robbery that occurred in Sumbwe Village, Sumbwe Parish.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, the suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted on March 9, 2026, in Kikunyu Village, Kamengo Sub-county, Mpigi District.
Preliminary findings indicate that the robbery took place on February 13, 2026, at around 10:00 PM. The victim, a resident of Sumbwe Village, was riding home on his motorcycle when he picked up two men in Busega who had posed as passengers heading to Sumbwe.
However, upon reaching Sumbwe, the two suspects reportedly turned violent. They allegedly pulled out a panga and attacked the rider, cutting his riding helmet before robbing him of his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 191DV, and a mobile phone.
Police say the arrested suspect is a bodaboda rider and a resident of Kikunyu Village in Kamengo, Mpigi District.
During the operation, officers recovered several exhibits believed to be linked to the crime. These included a mobile phone suspected to belong to the victim, a numberless motorcycle, and two other motorcycles with registration numbers UEB 559Q and UEC 678N.
Police have said that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the robbery.
SP Kawala noted that more details about the case will be shared as investigations continue.
